Establishment and Early Years (1998-2001)
In the vibrant coastal city of Suva, Fiji, Golden Ocean Group of Companies embarked on its remarkable journey in 1998. With a vision to harness the bounty of the Pacific Ocean, we set sail, building two cutting-edge long-liner vessels: WIN FULL-1 and WIN Full-2. By 1999, these vessels were ready to conquer the open seas, marking the beginning of our commercial operations.
During our initial phase, we outsourced fish processing while our own state-of-the-art factory took shape. In 2000, we proudly inaugurated our first fish processing plant in Suva. Fueling our growth, we launched the construction of two additional long-liners—Win Full-3 and Win Full-6—to meet the surging demand from our valued customers.
Navigating Success (2001-2005)
As the tides of success swept us forward, we expanded our fleet. Two more brand-new long-liners joined our ranks under the prestigious banner of Win Star. Our commitment to excellence resonated with the industry, and in 2005, we seized an opportunity—a company acquisition that granted us a prime harbor-front plot. Here, we erected our second large fish processing plant and Ultra Low -60 cold storage facility by 2008/2009.
Beyond Horizons (2005-2012)
Guided by our management’s foresight, we embarked on a journey beyond Fiji’s shores, venturing into neighboring territories. In 2011, we charted our first strategic course towards the Kiribati Islands. Amidst the tranquil azure waters and endless horizons, we established a firm foothold, witnessing our operations flourish in resonance with the exponential growth we had experienced in our home base.
Our collaboration with the Government of Kiribati led to the establishment of Kiribati Fish Limited (KFL), with Golden Ocean Fish Limited assuming a major shareholder role in this joint endeavor. The operational reins of KFL are expertly managed by Golden Ocean Fish Limited, fostering its rapid expansion since inception, supported by the unwavering backing of the Kiribati Government.
Presently, KFL’s portfolio encompasses a diverse range of activities including tuna longline fishing, and we employee over 400 people both in on-shore and fishing operations, Tuna purse seine fishing, fish processing and export, as well as fishing vessel management and services, reflecting our commitment to multifaceted excellence in the fisheries sector.
Reflecting on our past achievements, we harbor unwavering enthusiasm for the promising trajectory that lies ahead for KFL. The forthcoming years hold even greater potential, fueled by the bountiful fisheries resources of Kiribati and our steadfast dedication to environmental stewardship and economic advancement. Anchored in a culture of excellence, KFL stands as a formidable presence in the fisheries industry, poised to achieve sustained success and make positive contributions to the region’s development.
